Abstract

This research explores the pivotal role of the Supreme Court of Indonesia in maintaining the consistency of judicial decisions within the context of the country’s integrated judicial system. The Indonesian legal system, characterized by its complex interplay of various legal frameworks, including civil, criminal, and administrative laws, faces significant challenges in ensuring consistency in judicial decisions. The study investigates how the Supreme Court, as the highest judicial authority, influences and upholds uniformity across lower courts, and addresses the challenges arising from conflicting rulings in similar cases. By analyzing case law, judicial review processes, and the role of legal precedent, this research highlights the mechanisms employed by the Supreme Court to ensure legal coherence and stability in the judicial system. Furthermore, the research examines the impact of inconsistent decisions on public trust in the legal system and the potential reforms necessary to enhance the effectiveness of judicial decision-making in Indonesia. The findings suggest that while the Supreme Court plays a critical role in fostering legal consistency, there remain significant obstacles, including the limited implementation of binding precedents and disparities in judicial interpretations across different regions. The study concludes with recommendations for strengthening the mechanisms of judicial review and enhancing the institutional capacity of the Supreme Court to maintain a unified and predictable legal framework.
